Todd Howard Reveals Ambitious Goal for The Elder Scrolls 6

Bethesda wants The Elder Scrolls 6 to be the "ultimate fantasy-world simulator." Bethesda first announced The Elder Scrolls 6 all the way back at E3 2018 with a teaser trailer that didn't reveal much beyond the game's logo. Even though there have been little to no updates on The Elder Scrolls 6 since then, hype is still at a fever pitch for the game, especially since it's been over a decade since its predecessor released.

Considering how long it's been since Skyrim launched, expectations are going to be astronomical for The Elder Scrolls 6. But if Bethesda succeeds in meeting its goal for the game, it should safely live up to the hype. Todd Howard recently told GQ that Bethesda wants The Elder Scrolls 6 to "fill that role of the ultimate fantasy-world simulator. And there are different ways to accomplish that given the time that has passed."

With Starfield just recently going gold, it will likely be many years before The Elder Scrolls 6 launches. It's been said that The Elder Scrolls 6 release date is still five+ years away, meaning it will potentially launch in 2028 at the earliest. With this in mind, GQ also asked Howard if he regrets making the Elder Scrolls 6 announcement at E3 2018. Howard said that he doesn't know if regrets it, but that he "probably would've announced it more casually." Howard also confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 has a codename, but he declined to reveal it to GQ during the interview.

Todd Howard has previously suggested that The Elder Scrolls 6 could be the last game he directs, though in the GQ article, he said that he wants to be developing games forever. Howard said that the way he makes games "will probably evolve," but he pointed out how Shigeru Miyamoto is still actively developing video games, even at 70 years old.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is in development.
